“Hello, my name is Gaynor Nash and I was appointed to the 2012 Legacy post in June 2009. I work with five county sports partnerships, nine Local Authorities and various regional and national organisations such as Youth Sport Trust, Dance4, the Igniting Ambition team and the East Midlands Creative Programmer.
The East Midlands Development Agency is a key partner and there I am able to work with Tracy Croft, Regional Coordinator for all things to do with 2012, and Robert Knott, Sport Policy and 2012 Games Adviser. EMDA also hosts the Inspire Programmer for the region, Emma Burke.
I taught for 22 years in secondary schools in Leicester and Leicestershire before taking over the Playing for Success Centre at Leicester City FC and becoming a Critical Friend to the PfS programme. From there I became Study Support Coordinator and then Extended Services lead at Leicester City Council.
Away from work I am a hockey fanatic, still playing and coaching the junior sides at the very successful Leicester Ladies HC. I am also a bit of an ‘Olympist’ having been to three of the last four Olympics.
The pictures above are of two of my memorable Olympic experiences: being in the stadium in Athens when Kelly Holmes won her 800 metres gold medal and going to Beijing, even if it was pouring down at the Bird’s Nest when I visited.
I am based at the fantastic SportPark at Loughborough University where I am hosted within the LeicesterShire and Rutland Sports Partnership. For me, this Legacy post is the dream job, especially as my employers are genuinely committed to lasting legacy and have made the post one that ends in 2014.
You can read a little more on my thoughts on legacy at http://www.soarmagazine.co.uk/2010/03/11/a-legacy-in-sport/ I also produce a weekly blog for Soar Magazine if you are a glutton for punishment.
What are we doing in the East Midlands to address the five objectives?
• Increased sport and physical activity :MORE:
• More volunteering by children and young people :MORE:
• Make best use of educational opportunities offered by 2012 :MORE:
• Children and young people to be fully involved in the Cultural Olympiad :MORE:
• Use 2012 to develop and deepen international understanding :MORE:
